A-Bike Mark 2 design improvements

Postby Oritatami on Mon Nov 06, 2006 8:59 pm

What improvements and design changes would people like to see in the next generation of A-Bike? I can think of a few things, in no particular order, that may have already been mentioned elsewhere on this site:

1. Less stiction in the headset
2. Wider handlebars
3. Better tyres and inner tubes giving less rolling resistance
4. A softer saddle with built in rear lights
5. A padded carry bag
6. Bigger wheels (offset the wheels, mount them on monoforks either side and you could double the wheel size)
7. Suspension (small elastomer perhaps?)
8. Stronger titanium frame (suddenly it is looking expensive but we can say goodbye to the weight limit)
9. Stronger plastic composite
10. Chain fully enclosed from dirt and water
11. Better mudguards
12. Gears (or more space inside to change the size of the sprockets or chain wheel) Anyone considered changing the length of the cranks?
13. White LED front light built into the handlebars

Anyone got any other ideas?

Hummmmm........
The A-bike next generation you are waiting for is something like Moulton, Brompton, Birdy, Strida bikes......
I like the A-bike because it is as it is !
Very light, minimum sized when folded, something like the push-scooters (Razor, JDbug, Micro) I also like a lot.
I agree about a softer saddle and longer seatpost (I bought them and fitted them to my A-bike).
Of course a stronger frame, better things and others....But as it is we have an ultralight folding bike, with a nice look, at a cheap price and which offers great fun.

1) stop frame locks from bending back to far and interfering with the folding action
2) stop rotation of the pedals to horizontal position when folded.
3) more familiarity within the general public (I'm tired of fielding questions from strangers...sinclair should be paying me for all this free publicity)
4) include LED lights in the basic package...
5) colour choice.

apart from that, mines doing it's job very well at shortening my commute.
