A-bike sales MD David Merricks getting arrested by community support officer for cycling at 3mph on widest walkway on the Kings Rd Chelsea. Fined £30 no discretion, despite the fact that there were no other pedestrians within 20 yds and no possible risk to man or beast. Community support officer claimed there was a zero tolerance approach in Chelsea. He also admitted it was a great waste of time prosecuting harmless middle-aged citizens ambling at pedestrian pace on an A-Bike (holding a conversation at the time with Jo Bradley who took this photo).[/img]

I'm appalled at this! Teenagers seem free to race around the pavements on bicycles, deliberately hassling people and no one does anything.

It's interesting that the official A-Bike promotional video shows a man cycling on the pavement with it.

Also Newsnight recently did an article on green living and they openly showed their presenter riding along the pavement (on a full size bike).

What do others think about this? I'm very well of the arguments against cycling on pavements and I'm undecided myself whether it should be allowed. Perhaps we should hold a poll.

I think the zero tolerance principle is just a full-size intolerance principle and on top of that don't apply to really harmful people!
