Not much to ride but small bike in bag?

Postby Weakling on Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:20 pm

I need your help. Could this be a bike from China. The name chosen is very common on the internet.

EasyBike X-Cross. That is the name the Swedish firm gave it I guess cause I only found a Swedish site for it. Very inexpensive bike.
Less than half the price of a Strida.

Maybe less than half of a A-bike. The bag for it is cheap Nylon so it is not a strong bag. 80x40 x 45? cm which is kind of ok me for such an inexpensive bike. If one buy foldeable pedals then it is much smaller.

Bigger than the carryme but for me who are tall and heavy it has better wheels. 12" with metal rim.

Swedish agent for it is Lejon Trading.

Have same folding style as this one. With the differense that this one slide in and out to make the wheelbase longer when unfolded. So maybe this one is better to ride.

It seems that the one sold in Sweden is inspired by Hanybike from Germany.

Handybike has very small wheels while the one I'm wanting to know more about seems to have at least 12" wheels.

Here is one Handybike with small wheels from Indonesia.

Maybe they have better picture on other site. Same folding style.

Could it be a faked Handybike with bigger wheels.

Here is a Handybike 8"

Image

And here the EasyBike with probably 12" wheels. Almost like Twins?

The Easybike looks like it has an uncomfortably short wheelbase, stability could be an issue despite the bigger wheels.

Also, does anyone think the seat looks too close to the handlebars?

You are right on, that is what happen when I test ride it indoors
in shop. If I sat with back very vertical with long stretched arms
then I easily could make a wheely and fall backwards if I lost
concentration on being even weight on both wheels. Handlebar
do come very close to body too.

I measured the wheelbase and it is about 62 to 63 cm and 24.5 inch.
The weight is 12kg which is heavy for suck a small package.

I bought more out of curiosity. It is not a bike like Carryme which
have quality all over this one have ultra cheap steer stem and handlebars
and such. Already a bit rust in the folding of handlebar. The brake was not
as good as I hoped and only brake on rare wheel not on front.

No instruction book on how to handle it. But steering is easy to set as high
as needed even for someone as high as me. 194cm.

I weight now 90kg cause I managed to go down from 97 to 90 and plan to go down to 85 which is limit for Carryme and happen to be my BMI ideal too.

The cost was about half of what a Carryme would be and that one are too
small for my long legs. I would hit the handle bar constantly while on this one I will not ever do that. The Seat could be as high as I wanted it but
not as high as real cyclists wants. 93 cm to ground from back of seat while I prefer about 90 to 91 or so.

The wheels takes only 40 psi but that is ok with me. 31 cm or about 12" wheels.

If I buy Carryme with best price in England it cost me about 290£ or BPS
and that is about 3604 in Swedish money and this Easybike did cost me
1698 SEK but with 10% reduction being the first to buy that day I got it for
only 1528SEK which is less than half of a Carryme.

The difference is that this one I don't need to change it could take my
knees without problem while if I had bought a singlespeed Carryme then
I would need to buy something that could place the handlebar some 7 centimeters higher up which I have not found yet and I would need to change at least one of the brakecables too.

How does it handle it self? How is it to ride it?

It is much more easy to ride than a Strida. It is not as well behaved as
a standard Roadbike for grownups like 28" bikes.

I think it is a bit more difficult than my Microbike but a friend of mine tested it too and thought it better than my Microbike and much better than Strida which he has tested on latest weekend.

I know some or many Strida owners would not agree but I have 4 neighbors who have tested my Microbike and say it behave almost identical to a standard bike while Strida doesn't.

So I am only a bit disappointed. I will adjust to this bike much faster than I would on a Strida and to the half price of a Strida at the low Sale price.

So I am satisfied, this could be the acceptable compromise.

What is bad that it is heavy and too big but it is much smaller than a same price 20" folder that is very big when folded. This one folded is
80cmx40cmx10cm which is ok to have between knees in the bus.

The Agent in Sweden didn't want to tell which country that builds it.
Trade Secret they told me.
Could it be that it is an OEM build? That the factory allow the importers to name it as they wish so we have no idea who manufactors it.

Name is patented in Sweden. So most likely it has another name in other countries. EasyBike X-Cross. They have sold it for some two years and it is very unknown even here in Sweden. I heard about yesterday. Had no idea it existed a week ago.

To my eyes it look like a copy of a German HandyBike but they have 6" or 8" wheels. This one 12".

Handybike 8 is the green one in lower part of picture below and the HandyBike 6" in upper.
The green Handybike has multi speed while my EasyBike are a single speed. .

Easybike as it look 2008. Isn't it exactly same folding style?

I took a ride to the grossary store some 400 mtrs short trip.
It is a slow bike and it is easy to wheely when it is uphill and
the single speed gearing is not optimal for either go fast nor take inclines.

And the ultra short wheelbase makes the handle to come close
to knees but the handle could be set high enough to allow a 194cm
guy on it. But the saddle is a bit low so it is not a bike for long travel.

I put seat to 90cm over ground so I easily could place feet on ground.
I feel much safer that way. The bike is more like a toy but less than
half the price of a Carryme or A-bike and the availability made it for me.

I could still buy a Carryall coming late summer if they are imported to England unless they are too highly priced for my budget.

Most likely me go for a home made or built version of ScootCase
to have in winter. They don't sell here so I have to made one myself.

If I make such one with pneumatic wheels it will suite me better than a two wheeler when it is icy streets. Very easy to fall on a bike while a three wheel scooter is more safe on low speed.

I have finally found the bike I bought in Sweden. It is same as
Smartbike but that could be an English version.

Could be that SmartBike use same OEM factory as my EasyBike use.

EasyBike is a 12" version in Steel while SmartBike says it is an 8" version in Alu but very similar in every other aspect.

The fun thing is that I found the home page of SmartBike in Oct 2006
but forgot to book mark it and then failed to remember the SmartBike
name and me searched and searched and felt bad about my poor memory
and then I heard about a firm in Sweden selling cheap bikes and I bought
one having no idea it was the Smartbike in a bigger version.

Such is fun coincides but embarrassing cause it means how old and forgetting me am now. Didn't used to be like that.

It is worth the 29BPS in England but not the 1698SEK I paid for it.

Could be same OEM factory and it looks very similar to me. Wheels are different but that could be due to the weight of motor they had to change wheels. All the rest looks identical.

The English site for SmartBike says they have Alu but it is all steel. Mayb ethey refer to the rim?

Very heavy being such a smal lbike.
My Band Brake in rear wheel is not a good brake. Dangerous.
I need to find front brakes for it. Iroad it today and it takes too long before it finally stop.
