Has anyone tinkered with a bike trailer?

I've been looking into designing a small enough bike trailer to be carried along with the bike.

I've been thinking along a design like this-



I am looking into using something small like the platform on a scooter-



modified to more or less behave like this-



Anyone have any suggestions?

He elevate the platform to allow bigger loads. How does it behave when one rides it then. Looks interesting but not so practical when taking the bike into my Hall. Where I have cloth and shoes and such. makes the bike long. Difficult to take it on a Train or bus too.

So your first suggestion if that one would be foldable would be great.

It seems the only hard points on the bike are the bolts on the back wheel. I will have to work out how to attach a tow ball above the tire from there.

For lean isolation the optimum position for a trailer to hitch to a bike is where the rear tyre touches the ground.

The closest practical alternative to this is the bikes rear wheels axle stub.
When a bike turns the trailer is at an angle to it. If it brakes while turning the trailer will try to push the bike upright.

The further the trailers hitch point is from where the bike tyre touches
the ground the greater the force generated is.

Hence two wheel trailers that attach to the seat post are rotationally decoupled, but can make the bike “feel funny” through corners because when slowing and turning at the same time the trailer is trying to push the bike upright.

The Carry Freedom City Trailer is excellent; I saw one and fiddled with it at Velorution in the West End, and it's been on my shopping list since.
