A quick question: Official Abike vs. Copy

Hey all,

First let me take the time to first say thanks to all the people here in the forum. I think it's great that all A-bike owners can go to a place on the net to express their love and interest for the A-bike.

Well, with that aside... Let me tell you a bit about myself. I recently bought a A-bike clone off of Ebay. (Mind you I knew it was a copy since it was too cheap to be an official one.)

Anyways I took the risk and bought the bike. At first all was well until my "A-Bicycle" bit the dust...

The casing that supports the saddle and pole has failed and cracked.

Anyways, I was wondering on the official A-bike from Mayhem is the casing made of a stronger plastic materal? Or is it made of metal of some sort.

The materials(plastic or metal) of parts are same between the genuine and any copy because every clone farm's owner has a brain.
But the quality of every part is clearly different because they have no mind.

I am a copy owner too. Although my copy looks rather good it does look like a cheap noname chinese crap supplied by tons to our country. You need to adjust and glue something to make it good

I have made about 3 miles on my bike and it does behave like a cheap bike - produces scratch noises. And I'm also afraid that rear casing may broke.

Although it was enough to meet the vehicle because our country is not bicycle friendly and I cannot imagine there to go on a-bike except of taking a couple of circles near the house.

As Binch wrote quality differs, and the quality difference starts from the point they mix GF (glass fiber) and Plastic!!! Accoding to some, this mixing process makes difference in toughness of the finished GF plastic.

Japanese distributer claims copies contain 10% of GF instead of 30%. I don't know about these stuff, though.

Very very early copies had ABS for their gear box...... so they made improvement there.

Yeah, from that link you posted that's where the Abicycle broke. Although the piece didn't fall out, the piece that "protects" the chain within the plastic casing fell out after the outer shell cracked.

Just for the record I wasn't going over a bump. I was riding on a smooth designated bike path.

Oh well, I guess I have to contact the guy who sold me the bike, or use a little TLC and repair it.

Any approach to test the toughness at home?
Of course to keep parts functional after...

When I disassembled my bike the plastic parts looked tough. At least much tougher than plastics used for PC mouse, keyboard, etc.
