how do i replace the rear inner brake cable ?

Hi

The rear brake cable needs to be replaced ,at least the inner cable does ,
the retaining barrel at the lever end snapped off. i had replaced the front cable some time ago,but the rear one seems more involved ?,
and would be please with any help...............

Hi, If you did manage to replace the front cable, you should be fine with the rear too. :D

first of all, you need to open up the gearbox using 3,4,6mm Allen keys. (Please refer other topics).

Ah, of course you need 8mm hex wrench (spanner) to remove cable from the brake band.
Adding to that please note you will need TWO 4mm Allen keys to complete the rest of the job!

This screws might be a little hard to unscrew, but you can do it with steady force. Both of the screws are straight forward normal thread. Soon or later, either one of the screws would come off. It seems the screws are reinforced with Thread lock, so better to apply it when putting them back.:wink:

You just need to slide it off the metal tube. no need to disassemble the seattube assy.

My A-bike's rear brake cable length was...

top cable = 86.5cm=34inches

bottom cable = 56cm=22inches
