Multi-speed hub on A-bike

Postby Stevbike on Sat Sep 04, 2010 8:17 pm

A person liked the idea getting either a 3 or 6 speed hub to get greater speed on a A-bike. Would there be any reason for any type of additional gearing on a very simple bike. Any thoughts about this is even it is needed on the design? I was looking at the rear wheel on my bike and see a very small space that would get very busy place very fast.

I personally feel that this option is not needed since the bike was design for short distances anyways. Larger folding bikes do exist that could meet the needs of a longer range bike while still allowing a compact design for travelling. Any thoughts on this would be nice to hear on this posting.

I know there're people in Taiwan and Hong Kong have installed 3-speed hubs on their CarryMes. 8)

However, I've never heard anyone has done this on an A-bike.

Thanks for posting the information about the Carry-me bike. That works well on that due to its drive train set-up. It would be interesting somehow see it placed on a A-bike using its enclosed drive train design.
