brake band is scratching the rim

Postby Smithy on Sun Sep 24, 2006 2:08 am

Hello to all.
I became the owner of Abike two weeks ago.
If it folds up, it becomes very small and the lightweight place is pleasing.

At my first rideing, there was a scratched noise from a rear wheel.
The cause of the noise was because the brake band is scratching the rim.
I detached and transformed the brake band and assemble backed to the correct place. By repeating this operation agin and agin, it seems at last that it is proper.

Is there any good method of mating a brake band with a rim in the right form?

Hi. Smithy

Following my experience, I didn't hear any noise.
When I grip the brake, the brake band become parallel with the rim by friction.
Probably I think there was a obstacle between band and rim thus the obstacle made some noise.

I often disjoint A-bike. My hobby
When I find a discordance between them,
I just bend the end of the brake wire.

Iron plate part of a brake band scratched at a rim

Postby Smithy on Mon Sep 25, 2006 4:58 pm

Hi. Binch Shin

Thank you for your reply.

If I said precisely, The noise occurred because an iron plate part of a brake band scratched at a rim. There was no obstacle between band and rim.

As a result of transformed a brake band agin and agin, and having adjusted it, at last the scratch noise did not occur.

Oh. Smithy

I got it
There is a misunderstanding.
You named a part what I call 'wheel hub' as 'rim' and...
I imagined your 'rim' as a 'brake rim'.

Anyway, Glad to meet you.
Good Riding

Hi Smithy,

Today, I noticed the same sound from my A-Bike.
The noise was a metallic rubbing sound. I fixed it by making a small adjustment to the brake.
