Thanks, well it could be me not fast in neuro responses. I've always
been slow in reactions since early childhood.

Sport things like catching a ball. If your fast you catch it and if your slow
it is way past your hands when you grasp for it.

I guess any normally fast person get a grip on Strida within some ten
seconds and slower within a minute and people like me could take a week
of daily training to be able to make the body's auto pilot to compensate with small adjustments to keep a steady riding.

As I remember A-bike had no such learning time for me and have not heard others needed it either.

Strida most likely is safe for everybody else exept peopel with my neuro condition. Maybe Strida could be used as a diagnostic instrument.

If you learn it within a minute your normal but if it takes hours maybe
an investigation is needed? :)

The Rollator me will try to add a Kick platform to is this one. 8 kg and to sit and walk with it you could weight 140 kg so mine 90 would be ok.

To kick one though would maybe exceed that weight. I maybe will put
a fifth wheel with drum breakes under the hood. These four wheels have no pneumatic so they will feel like if on rollerskaters a rough ride so a pneumatic wheel would be nice. Not sure if I add two such in the back of it too? Would add weight to it too much.

the four wheel kickbikes me have now are very heavy and that is not pleasant when entering a bus or train. They are too big and heavy.

I am glad that you have had a chance to feel how an A-bike rides. That is really interesting that you feel safe on an A-bike, but not on a Strida. Is it just because of the steering that you do not feel safe on a Strida? I have not ridden (or seen in person) a Strida, so I do not know how it handles.

I hope someday they make your 6 kg Double Kick Rollator.

Haha! That is a good idea. We could see how much company we could give Mr. Ronald.

I will keep that thought in mind if I can ever gather a group of small wheel riders.

Great story indeed.

I have finally met an A-bike owner and he let me ride it a short bit
so I now know what it feels like. Steering more frictional than on
ordinary bikes but not so difficult as on a Strida. I felt safe riding
A-bike compared to when I am on a Strida.

5.5 kg is still rather heavy to carry but rolling it is great.
I wish me could make a 6 kg Double Kick Rollator that would
be so cool. To be allowed to enter everywhere everybody realising
that is an EU approved aid for elderly with balance problem so we
have to accept it inside our building or transport vehicle.

A-bike goes everywhere in a bag too but then one have to carry it
unless one roll it covered and pretend it is a shopping carter sort of.

A-Bike and Carry-Me

Post by Sherlock Holmes on Sun May 04, 2008 9:57 pm

Last week I left work on my A-bike and started to head down to the lake on Chicago's coastline. I was riding past the huge MacDonalds downtown, and low and behold, there was someone sitting there with a collapsible bike not much larger than the A-bike!

I started talking with him, and realized it was one of the Carry-Me bikes. It was great to finally meet someone else in Chicago who rides a small folding bike. :D We both tried each other's bikes out. The Carry-Me is a lot heavier, and does not fold quite as well, but it sure feels a lot sturdier and less prone to damage. I really like the little rack on the back wheel for toting things. I think I would still pick the A-bike overall, but I was impressed with the Carry-Me.

The man's name is "Yong" and we are thinking that maybe someday now we will try and find some other small bike riders in Chicago, and have a ride together. We will see if anything works out. If there are any other Chicago A-bike riders (or other small bikes) out there, please let me know.

Here is a photo of my A-bike and Yong's Carry-Me, right next to Ronald MacDonald on his unicycle.
